Science & Technology

The middle school science program aims to develop scientifically literate individuals. Students develop their analytical and reasoning skills as they make hypotheses, conduct experiments, record observations, draw conclusions, and present findings. Class discussions, debates, oral reports, and lab and research projects further facilitate the mastery of content and skills development. The integration of environmental studies into coursework helps students understand the role of science in dealing with social and technological changes facing the world.

Introduction to Life Science

The coursework covers living things and their environments. Emphasis is placed on the investigative nature of science and the connection of the subject matter to students’ life experiences.

Introduction to Earth Science

Earth science is the study of the world around us. Topics will include astronomy (study of outer space), geology (study of landforms, earthquakes, volcanoes, and plate tectonics), meteorology (study of the atmosphere, climate, and climate change), and oceanography (study of the oceans and water systems). We will also discuss how earth science is relevant in students’ everyday lives.

Introduction to Physical Science and Technology

In this course, students study physical and chemical science. Students explore the physical and chemical properties of matter, energy, electricity and magnetism, natural resources, and nuclear science. They develop deductive and inductive reasoning skills and an appreciation for the importance of examining and recording data. Laboratory investigations and model-making activities challenge and develop students’ thinking and reasoning skills.

Students also learn the application of science through observations of how things around them work. They survey popular technologies essential to the everyday lives of modern people, with an emphasis on computer and information technology.
