Dance Program

The dance program at Fei Tian Academy of the Arts is, simply put, extraordinary. Its goal is to revive and promote genuine, compassionate, and beautiful traditional Chinese dance in its purest forms. The academy also helps students become professional dancers who not only have an outstanding command of academic and artistic skills but also demonstrate a strong moral character.

Dance instruction at Fei Tian consists of three levels: basic, intermediate, and advanced. Divisions of these levels, together with practical performance opportunities, enable students to gradually master the profound skills and knowledge of Chinese dance. Students who successfully complete the advanced level of dance training will receive a Fei Tian Certificate of Artistic Achievement. 

Each level of the dance instruction provides training in the following six areas:

• Techniques of Chinese classical dance 
• Waist and leg techniques for dancers
• Acrobatic skills for dancers
• Repertoire of Chinese classical dance, Chinese ethnic dance, and Chinese folk dance
• Selected works from the Shen Yun Performing Arts repertoire.
• Music for dancers

Fei Tian Academy of the Arts also arranges performance opportunities for its students both in the local community and in professional venues so students can gain valuable experience performing in front of a live audience. These opportunities will not only enhance their artistic development, but will also help them become more professional and disciplined in their conduct.

Students within the dance program must select one of three emphases by the start of their third year of high school: Performance, Dance Pedagogy, or Dance Production. The Performance Emphasis offers students aspiring to be professional dancers and choreographers of classical Chinese dance intensive training and valuable performance opportunities; the Dance Pedagogy Emphasis trains students in the essentials of the art and techniques of teaching classical Chinese dance; and the Dance Production Emphasis covers the basic skills and the latest technologies in the field. The academic advisor assists students in determining their emphasis.
