Advanced Education Division
Advanced Electives
Talented and Gifted (TAG) students who have completed most of their high school requirements are encouraged to study the college-level Advanced Electives.
Advanced Electives foster a broader acquisition of skills and knowledge characteristic of the liberal arts and sciences while expanding the student’s realm of intellectual inquiry. We believe that the educated person must be, in this day and age, a well-rounded person. He or she must be prepared not only for multiple careers, but also for the responsibility of citizenship. At Fei Tian Academy of the Arts, we seek to inculcate in the individual not only analytical precision and the spirit of inquiry, but also moral acuity and a sense of judgment. Our education fosters an appreciation for the beauty and virtues embodied in traditional cultures and an awareness of one’s ethical responsibility to others.
To this end, Fei Tian has established a framework of college-level general education standards. The courses cover the subject matter of major branches of human knowledge as well as different modes of inquiry within the humanities, social sciences, natural sciences, and applied sciences. In addition, the program ensures that students are equipped with the skills and judgment essential to engaging an increasingly dynamic, pluralistic, and challenging world, and to a life-long pursuit of truth.

The Fei Tian Advanced Education Division offers courses in the following areas:
• History and Civilizations
The History and Civilizations courses serve to convey a sense of awareness of the foundations of two of the greatest civilizations in the world—Western and Chinese. Students are also expected to develop an understanding of the human histories through courses in general history or histories of art and music by individual departments.
• Languages
Students are encouraged to become fluent and acquire college-level proficiency in both Mandarin Chinese and English.
• Appreciation of Art and Music
All students should develop an ability to appreciate different forms of arts including fine arts, dance, and music.
• Quantitative Reasoning
Students should establish basic skills in conducting quantitative reasoning through courses such as Calculus.
• Computer and Information Science
Success in our modern era is dependent upon facility with computer technologies and skills, and careers in the performing arts are no exception. Students are provided with the opportunity to pursue courses in Computer Science (at the AP level) and Computer Graphic Design.
Students are required to acquire sufficient computer skills, as well as the ability to conduct information search for lifelong learning.
Students who are taking Advanced Electives are highly encouraged to take the Advanced Placement (AP) exams each year so that their coursework may be eligible for college credit.
