Graduation Requirements
As an arts institution of high caliber, Fei Tian Academy of the Arts aims to offer students a rigorous education in the arts, academics, and Chinese language and culture.
Students who have enrolled in both the art and academic programs must meet the following requirements in order to graduate from Fei Tian. A student’s graduation date is determined by the date when he/she can complete the following graduation requirements rather than by his/her grade level:
- Complete the enrolled art program (currently dance, music, or fine arts; each four to six years)
- Complete all high school-level academic courses and exams
- Complete additional courses required by the arts programs (such as Music Theory for the music program)
- Complete additional courses in Chinese Language and Chinese History
- Demonstrate English proficiency through the New York Regents English exam, SAT, or TOEFL
Students with limited English proficiency when admitted to Fei Tian must go through intensive ESL (English as a Second Language) training before they can enroll in regular English or social studies courses.
Students with inadequate aptitude in social studies, math, or science when admitted to Fei Tian are required to take remedial courses in the relevant subjects in the intermediate school.
Students with inadequate background in any area of the enrolled art program when admitted to the school are required to take extra remedial training in the relevant artistic area.

Artistic Certificate
Fei Tian Academy of the Arts awards a Fei Tian Certificate of Artistic Achievement in Dance, Music, or Visual Arts to students who satisfactorily pass the Advanced Level of training in the chosen artistic program.
High School Academic Diploma
The Fei Tian High School Academic Diploma is awarded to students who:
- Complete all required high school courses (either at Fei Tian or at a prior school that meets the State requirements)
- Complete at least one year of study at Fei Tian, unless otherwise approved
- Pay all required tuition and fees.
Chinese Language and Culture Program Certificates
The Fei Tian Chinese Language Basic Level Certificate is awarded to students who:
- Complete at least Chinese Language I at Fei Tian
- Successfully pass the Basic Level Chinese language proficiency exam given at the end of the course that tests for basic listening and reading comprehension, basic conversational skills, vocabulary, and grammar.
The Fei Tian Chinese Language Intermediate Level Certificate is awarded to students who:
- Complete at least Chinese Language II and Chinese History I
- Successfully pass the Intermediate Level Chinese language proficiency exam given at the end of the course that tests for intermediate level listening and reading comprehension, verbal fluency, vocabulary, and grammar.
The Fei Tian Chinese Language Advanced Level Certificate is awarded to students who:
- Complete Chinese Language III, Chinese History II, and Chinese Civilization
Successfully pass the Advanced Level Chinese language proficiency exam given at the end of the course that tests for advanced level listening and reading comprehension, verbal fluency, vocabulary, and grammar.
English Language Program Certificates
The Fei Tian English Language Program Basic Level Certificate is awarded to students who:
- Complete at least one year of basic level English language study at Fei Tian
- Successfully pass the evaluation examination given at the end of ESL I demonstrating basic level proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language
The Fei Tian English Language Program Intermediate Level Certificate is awarded to students who:
- Complete at least one year of intermediate level English language study at Fei Tian
- Successfully pass the evaluation examination given at the end of ESL II demonstrating intermediate level proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language
The Fei Tian English Language Program Advanced Level Certificate is awarded to students who:
- Complete at least one year of advanced level English language study
- Successfully pass the evaluation examination given at the end of ESL III demonstrating advanced level proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in the English language
