Overview
Legend has it that Chinese arts and culture were gifts bestowed by the heavens; hence another common name for China is Shen Zhou, or “Land of the Divine.” After more than six decades of Communist rule, however, few traces of that gracious, civilized land survive in the China of today. Restoring these cultural treasures and preserving the stories, legends, and ancient values, such as loyalty, filial piety, and benevolence, has proven an invaluable way for students of Chinese descent to reclaim their heritage.
Moreover, the very process of perfecting their artistry is seen by many Fei Tian students as a form of spirituality in itself, for it requires a deeper understanding of life and humanity, a refinement of the mind and body, and a reverence for something higher than themselves. The belief that high art can bring the soul of both the practitioner and the viewer closer to holiness and divinity is universal to all cultures.
It is this deep appreciation for the sacred dimension of art that brings a rare purity and inner beauty to the works of Fei Tian. We are honored to be part of this extraordinary creative process.
All students take introductory courses in the history and appreciation of the arts. The unique learning experiences in the art classes complement the characteristics of young adults who tend to be alert, critical, and introspective, as well as receptive to challenging, creative study.
By viewing reproductions, prints, videos, periodicals, books, or original artworks in museums, in galleries, or on the Internet, students in the arts classes investigate selected historical periods and styles from many cultures. Through discussion with teachers and peers, students identify styles and trends throughout the ages. Students also learn about career opportunities available to persons who become skilled in art and design .
Fei Tian’s artistic offerings are broad and are divided into different levels. Students receive instruction appropriate for their age and skill level. Skill is determined through auditions and assessment of artwork.
