Academy History

Fei Tian Academy of the Arts is a natural expansion of the Fei Tian Dance School, a nonprofit organization created by Falun Dafa practitioners in 2006 that sought to preserve, promote, and develop traditional Chinese dance and arts through classes and performances. Its aim was to help students become the best professional dancers in Chinese classical dance, Chinese folk dance, and ballet.

The Fei Tian Dance School provided after-school dance training of classical styles and techniques to talented and motivated youth. The majority of the Dance School’s students were second-generation Americans of Chinese descent and the remainder were of other ethnicities. The students managed in a short time to make astounding progress in their development as dancers. Many of them went on to participate in a variety of performances, including both community shows and major, large-scale dance productions of international caliber.

The success of the Fei Tian Dance School’s artistic education was met with increasing demand from both the students and their parents to expand the artistic programs and to include academic instruction. In March 2007, the Fei Tian Academy of the Arts (FTAA) was officially granted approval to offer elementary and secondary academic education, thereby replacing the original Dance School.

Fei Tian Academy of the Arts was fully accredited in July 2008, and absolutely chartered in July 2009, by the New York Board of Regents. As an accredited institution for secondary education, Fei Tian has the authority to administer the New York State Regents examinations and to award high school diplomas to students completing grade 12. Fei Tian has also been audited by the College Board to teach a number of AP courses and administer PSAT and AP exams.
