About Fei Tian Academy of the Arts

Fei Tian Academy of the Arts is a place where moral values are integrated into the artistic and academic curriculum. It aims to educate the whole person by placing equal emphasis on professional skills and knowledge, the study of culture, and character development. Fei Tian strives to provide an uplifting environment of learning and self-improvement for its students and staff alike based on Truthfulness, Compassion, and Forbearance -- the guiding principles of Falun Dafa.

Falun Dafa, also called ‘Falun Gong’ or simply just ‘Dafa,’ is a high-level cultivation practice that stems from ancient traditions. Through exercises and meditation and actively improving their inner nature, practitioners of Falun Dafa often find marked improvements in their physical, mental, and spiritual health.

The word fei tian, literally translated as “flying apsaras,” is a Chinese term for a type of heavenly being celebrated for their beauty, poise, and grace. Fei tian are usually depicted as goddesses who spread goodness around the world. They can be seen in artwork from ancient India, China, Japan, Korea, and elsewhere.

Purpose

Fei Tian Academy of the Arts seeks to provide both academic and arts education that prepares students for overall success in life. At Fei Tian, students receive unique and rigorous artistic instruction in classical dance, music, and fine arts so that they may become artists of outstanding training and talent. At the same time, the students also receive a quality academic education designed to enable them to obtain a high school diploma and prepare them for either immediate employment or post-secondary studies upon graduation.

Fei Tian is unique among arts schools and organizations in the United States in that it not only teaches techniques and knowledge in Western art forms but also promotes and advances the best education in Chinese art. Students learn in a bilingual environment and explore their cultural background and history in the Chinese language. The study of different academic subjects will also help to establish a solid foundation from which young artists may develop and grow.

Students have ample opportunity to participate in the creation and performance of artistic productions and activities. Fei Tian’s repertoire primarily consists of traditional-style works that demonstrate an appreciation for virtue, integrity, and honorable conduct.

At Fei Tian, we believe the most effective learning occurs when the wish to learn comes from within the young students themselves. By experiencing the beauty of the performing arts from antiquity to the present and by engaging in a balanced offering of courses and activities, the young students at Fei Tian very naturally feel motivated to learn.

While the Fei Tian Academy of the Arts gives preference to young practitioners of Falun Dafa, it welcomes all talented young students from across the United States and around the world who are interested in learning the classical Chinese arts as well as students of all ages who wish to enroll in the language programs.
